Position Description DEFINITION... Assists in planning, coordinating and providing tutoring services to support both Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs. Provides support to students in building independent learning strategies, study skills, and test taking strategies. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: • Receives general supervision from nursing faculty and Program Director • Exercises no supervision ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions: • Must be able to convey/discuss knowledge in both the subject material and course requirements • Will assist students so they can learn do the academic work for themselves. Tutors are NOT to do the student’s work for them. • Develop a friendly and professional relationship with students. • Work to build students’ confidence; be a source of encouragement and support for the students. Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Other Important Functions: • Accurately maintain records and students’ progress data as required • Establish and maintain good rapport and effective communication with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels • May need to work with more than one student per session • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques Ability To: • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both verbally and in writing • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: • Making observations • Reading and writing • Communicating with others • Operating assigned equipment • Handling varied tasks simultaneously • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time • Operating assigned equipment • Handling varied tasks simultaneously • Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of: • Making sound decisions • Responding to questions • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities Supplemental Information EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Minimum Education/Training: • Must have taken and passed with a “C” or better the nursing course (or equivalent content course) they are tutoring the student in Minimum Experience: • n/a Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills: • n/a Special Instructions to Applicants: • Position is located at the Downtown Wilmington Campus. Tutors determine their own work schedules and location for tutoring. They may contact their supervisor to reserve space for tutoring if needed. • This position REQUIRES UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS AND/OR TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS be submitted in addition to the application. Please have these documents ready to upload when applying. • Successful candidates are required to submit official transcripts for all degrees obtained, prior to first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is a High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required. • Successful candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master’s degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States. • This is a temporary part time contracted position and does not offer benefits other than voluntary participation in a 403B or 457 Retirement plan, for which no employer match is offered. Additionally, part time positions do not accrue vacation or sick leave, and do not accrue hours towards state service.
