About the position The Medical Assistant position at Ochsner Health involves performing appointment scheduling and providing direct patient care within a clinic setting. The role is essential in assisting healthcare providers in delivering health care services and ensuring a positive experience for patients. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for various administrative and clinical tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team. Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members. , Ensure all patient required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate. , Efficiently input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due. , Perform vital signs and other screenings, obtaining height, weight, allergy and medication history and other assessments. , Prepare patients for exams, explaining any procedures before they are performed and answering the patients' questions. , Schedule and reschedule patient appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information. , Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style. , Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. , Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred. , Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred. , Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. , Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred. , Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. , Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. , Effective verbal and written communication skills. Nice-to-haves Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) , Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) , Certification as a Medical Assistant or other medical specialty-based certification.
