About the position The Medical Assistant position at Ochsner Health involves performing appointment scheduling and providing direct patient care within a clinic setting. The role is essential in assisting healthcare providers in delivering health care services and ensuring a positive experience for patients. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for various administrative and clinical tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team. Responsibilities • Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members. , • Ensure all patient required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate. , • Efficiently input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due. , • Perform vital signs and other screenings, obtaining height, weight, allergy and medication history and other assessments. , • Prepare patients for exams, explaining any procedures before they are performed and answering the patients' questions. , • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information. , • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style. , • Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility. Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent required. , • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred. , • Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred. , • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. , • Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred. , • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. , • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. , • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Nice-to-haves • Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) , • Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) , • Certification as a Medical Assistant or other medical specialty-based certification.
